The above photo is of Fowler's Bay jetty. THS provides comprehensive primary health care programs and services as well as an aged and disabled persons program. We place special focus on maternal and child health because this is the key to reducing the level and impact of the chronic illness which so many Anangu suffer. To this end additional funds have been sourced to establish a mothers and babies centre so that THS staff can work alongside Yalata women in a non-clinical environment dealing with issues of nutrition, child care, and other lifestyle related health matters. Closely allied to this work is the rest of Tullawon's highly integrated primary health care program which includes screening, health promotion, acute care, referrals and emergency evacuations, mens and youth health, mental health, substance use and Bringing Them Home counselling. Primary health care staff provide health support for the clients of THS’s aged and disabled person’s program. This is a day care program with its own staff who support the social, emotional and physical needs of frail aged and disabled people in Yalata. Assistance with showering, washing clothes, some meals and social outings are part of the work of the program. Thanks to funding provided by the State Government through Disability SA, client needs will be greatly supported by the construction of special accommodation in Yalata for disabled people. THS is keen to gain full accreditation at both program and organisational levels across all its activity. Accreditation is an important way THS can ensure its services are of the highest possible quality. Significant work has already been done in preparation for seeking accreditation assessment by Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited. AGPAL is the independent assessor of Royal Australian College of General Practitioners accreditation standards. Organisational accreditation will follow as soon as possible afterwards. This will involve assessment of THS by Quality Management Services against standards set by the Quality Improvement Council. The Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing is developing a national quality framework for aged care services such provided by THS. THS is seeking funds to prepare for this framework as well as investigating the possibility of some form of more formal accreditation for its aged and disabled persons program. |
